This is an independent informative website about Japanese bamboo crafts. It is not a retailer, training provider, appraisal service or conservation practice. Information is general and may not apply to a particular object, material, finish or workshop.

We are not affiliated with any workshop, museum or craft association mentioned. References to organizations, places and makers are for context and further research, not endorsements or representations of a working relationship.

No authentication or treatment advice

Nothing on this site establishes the age, value, origin, authorship, safety or condition of an individual object. Care guidance is not a substitute for instructions from its maker or an assessment by a qualified conservator. Material explanations are not practical instructions for using sharp tools, heating bamboo or applying chemicals.

Do not rely on a general article to decide whether an undocumented object is suitable for food contact, heavy loads or wet use. Stop any activity that may harm you, others or the object.
